Love is in the air! No I’m not talking about Valentine’s Day. I’m talking about Galentine’s Day – the day when we take time to celebrate the awesome women in our lives. Thanks to Leslie Knope, February 13th has become a day to cheers our fave females and I’m using this week’s blog post to do just that! Here are three amazing ladies who inspire me:
Amanda Levete, AL_A I have to start off with one of the most inspiring women in all of design right now. Amanda Levete is an incredible architect making a big name for herself in a world dominated by men. She is this year’s recipient of the Jane Drew Prize which recognizes architects who raise the profile of women in architecture. Zaha Hadid was a previous recipient, so you know they only pick the best of the best for this esteemed award. One look at her work (which spans the globe) and you can see why Amanda Levete is a woman to admire. Seriously, I’m obsessed with the shadows created by her courtyard design for the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Justina Blakeney, Jungalow As a lover of design, I’m constantly drooling over amazing insta feeds and as a result my personal style is ever evolving. What started as a firm Transitional style in my own home has slowly been evolving to incorporate a Boho Chic vibe. And a lot of that is thanks to Justina Blakeney and her Jungalow life! She has built an empire on her completely amazing, totally unique bohemian look. From features in top magazines to a New York Times best selling book to her own line at Target, Justina is living a dream life that I can’t help but admire.
Dena & Kathy, Re-Claym’d Market One of my dreams is to someday open up a small home decor shop where I can refinish furniture and teach classes. The amazing duo at Re-Claym’d Market have done just that and their shop is amazing! I personally know these hard working ladies and they have turned a simple idea into a thriving business. They have been a huge source of inspiration for me personally and professionally. From being voted best shop in their city to creating a successful series of craft classes (that are super hard to get into because they always sell out!) to their recent expansion of their shop, Dena and Kathy have a knack for business that I greatly admire and an eye for country chic design that can’t be beat!
